Re: Christmas Cancelled - Cry a Tier 4...

Well our family are carrying on with Christmas as planned. I'm driving to my parents' house in a few hours. Of the five of us, only me and my brother are true sceptics, so I suspect there'll be millions doing the same as us.

Re: Christmas Cancelled - Cry a Tier 4...

Is this a good thing in the long run? When a majority of the population consciously flout the rules en masse, will we have crossed the Rubicon?

Probably not, but one can dream.

Re: Early new year resolution to recover sanity

Always enjoy your posts Teebs. I usually forward your reports on to a Parisian sceptic friend of mine.

I wish there were speakeasies in the UK. They would provide a bit of excitement at this dreary time.

Re: My life, ruined by COVID

Sorry to hear that you're struggling at the moment. A while ago I was finding it difficult to sleep and to concentrate. I'd try and read a book in bed, but I'd spend 20 minutes on the same paragraph, my mind was just too full of Covid to take it in. What I do now is just try and avoid reading or dis...

Re: Office for National Statistics: 2020 Deaths Bang Average

Very interesting, thanks Gary.

It's also worth noting that 2019 was the least deadly year. If we take the years of the last decade in pairs, then 2019-2020 is very close to all the other pairs.

Re: What are your Slam Dunks?

Not a fact slam dunk, more a succinct way of critiquing the Covid response... The effects of lockdowns and other draconian measures are absolutely catastrophic in all kinds of ways. Therefore, lockdowns can only be justified if both of the following statements are true: a) Covid poses a catastrophic...

Re: Christmas Carol Protest

Count me in. I also run a (in person!) community choir in north London Monday eves 6-8--to which fellow sceptics are welcome. We sing Folk, Jazz, Blues, Classical, World songs in 3/4 harmony. We also do a couple of carols this time of year. It is run at a (covid secure!) venue near Seven Sisters. A...

Perhaps we can re-write a few of the classics ;)

Christmas Carol Protest

Following on from what someone proposed on here a month or two ago. I've been thinking that large gatherings to sing Christmas carols as a form of protest/nice way to spread some Christmas cheer. The problem with the brave protests that have taken place so far, is that the media spins it as a few co...
