Welsh elections and police chief May 6th tactical voting

The government response / the cost of the lockdown / public support for the lockdown / previous responses to pandemics / the assault on liberty / etc.

Welsh elections and police chief May 6th tactical voting

Post by 1000Roses »

On May 6th in Cardiff we get to vote on:
1/ Police chief
2/ Welsh assembly, for which I get two votes, one for my constituent member, and one for the 20 seats elected by party list

Now my questions:
1/ Is there a one-stop site that tells me who is standing for each of these elections?
2/ Crucially, which of the candidates/parties are anti-lockdown and anti-vaccination passports?

So far the publicity through my door has been extremely vague.

Thanks

Reform is probably the nearest you'll get.

Labour and Plaid are just battling to see who can lock down first and hardest.
Conservatives seemingly have no policy on anything at all.
Reform is anti lockdown/vaxpass.

I don't know about the candidates but it seems like Reform, Reclaim, Abolish, Heritage and UKIP all oppose LD. UKIP had a bit of momentum in South Wales as an opposition to Labour, considering PC, LibDems and Tories seem out of bounds for most South Walians. Also, UKIP will be standing in South Wales; I don't know if the other small parties will be on the ballot in your area.

Keep an eye on the other thread on this board regarding political parties.

Right I've postally voted in Welsh election
constituency: conservative, MARK iSHERWOOD
regional : conservative (unwillingly)
police chief, lib dem
reason: welsh conservatives have opposed much of the lockdown law and esp Drakeford and gething. and they are quite distinct from the Lying cretins in Boris' govt, and Mark is one of the good guys. And Plaid Cymru are just as evil as Labour.
lIb DEMS HAVE pledged to put recovery first, not lockdown.
Anyway it's signed sealed and delivered...

My advice, vote against the incumbent , esp when the incumbent is total rubbish.

That's pretty much my take on it although tactical voting is a nightmare with the regional list.

And no, the irony isnt lost on me that im likely to have to vote conservative after all the damage they've caused UK wide but the priority for me is to get Drakeford out or at least remove a lot of his power base.

Not sure you will get to read this being on your foes list. i'm not disagreeing with your choice or logic but Mark Isherwood, whom I know loosely, happens to be the imcumbent AS.

Capitulation

Tomorrow, we will see Mark Drakeford capitulating in front of the welsh nation on a live TV broadcast.

It is not everyday that we see a formidable foe brought to its knees on television. Welsh Labour has held the nation of Wales in a fierce house arrest lockdown since mid december 2020. And today he gave up the struggle, only because opinion polls predicted the worst ever election results for any Welsh Assembly government.

So today even Mark Drakeford eventually saw the light. He's trying to salvage a few votes, since there is still a chance Labour might scrape together enough seats to form a weak government.

Our job now, if you are in Wales is to make sure that any government involving Mark Drakeford or Labour is as weak as possible. Labour needs to suffer now for what they have done. Sadly, the only party in Wales who can challenge the Labour incumbents is the Conservatives, so with a bitter taste I have had to vote for the Welsh conservative party, since that is the best way to undermine Labour power in Wales, which is long overdue.

My advice, vote Welsh Conservative to reward a real opposition and to destroy a totalitarian stand of socialism that inflicted a year of house arrest on its citizens. Show totalitarians where their creed leads - oblivion. Put Welsh Labour in oblivion. Make Mark Drakeford's nightmare a reality for him. Retire the latin teacher.

I suspect the cynical electioneering (Gyms and more numbers brought forward to before election then indoor brought forward to just after) will work and win him enough votes to scrape through.

Of course, if he was following his OWN science and criteria everything would have opened up a month ago...

Pretty sure he chose to without then release for this very reason.

My vote was already in the letter box before he caved, I assume he lost a few postal vote on account of that cock up.

Well he did the first discount sale 2 weeks ago before the postal vote start be bringing forward gyms and other things.

Presumably polls still weren't great so had to use this one time special offer of pubs to get a few extra votes.

He did also warn today about the Indian Variant and how we should probably never travel anywhere ever again.
Presumably he's given up on his 2 months use of the "Bristol Variant" since PHE have documented no new cases in weeks so its likely extinct.

I *think* the best tactical voting here is main vote Conservative, regional vote Reform looking on share from previous elections.
Con/Con might actually split the regional enough to give Drakeford an extra seat.
