Covid 19 +ve and flu vaccine

Post by Jane G »

Listening to talkradio this morning and a caller mentioned someone testing positive for Covid a few days after having the flu vaccine.

I'm not well informed on this kind of thing but is it at all possible, given the hyper-sensitivity of the PCR test, and the high cycle threshold, that the vaccine would affect the PCR test to suggest that Covid was present?

Is there any protocol in existence to advise against having a test soon after a flu jab, and if not, should there be? I know fans of the flu jab assert that 'dead' virus is used but the PCR doesn't seem to know the difference.

No relationship at all. The flu vaccine contains nothing that the SARS-CoV2 RT-PCR would amplify.

US National Institute of Health study indicated interference between Influenza vaccination and susceptibility to respiratory viruses, summary in post on page 2 of Medicine Forum.

Please note how the Conclusions' first statement states no association which is then contradicted by the subsequent conclusion that 'Vaccine derived interference was significantly associated with coronovirus and human metapneumovirus...'

'CONCLUSIONS:
Receipt of influenza vaccination was not associated with virus interference among our population. Examining virus interference by specific respiratory viruses showed mixed results. Vaccine derived virus interference was significantly associated with coronavirus and human metapneumovirus [emphasis added]; however, significant protection with vaccination was associated not only with most influenza viruses, but also parainfluenza, RSV, and non-influenza virus coinfections.nclusion contradicts itself by indicating interference not observed but then says

@ PowerCorrupts.

I've taken a look. Half the vaccinated population are young adults (46% 18-35); half the unvaccinated are children (52% <=18). In looking at the overall incidence of viral infections (Table 4) they adjust for this and other factors, concluding that, overall, these is no difference between the groups for these infections. Table 5 then lists numbers of vaccinated and unvaccinated who got various individual viruses and shows, inter alia, an excess of coronaviruses in the vaccinated. So far as I can see, however, this isn't adjusted for age and one can't refute the plausible hypothesis that 'coronaviruses were largely circulating in young adults, not children, whereas RSV and parainfluenza were doing the converse'.

What must we infer from this?
Dr John Campbell on his daily YouTube Coronavirus updates a couple of weeks ago, drew attention to a study that appeared to reveal an increased susceptibility to the virus after having the flu vaccine. He stopped short of discouraging take-up of the flu vaccine, though.
